Season 1 of Squid Game cinched Netflix’s title of most popular series of all time with over 1.65 billion hours of viewing (190,000 years) accrued in its first 28 days on the platform. The series received 14 Emmy nominations and six wins, including outstanding directing for a drama series and outstanding lead actor in a drama series. With so many accolades, it’s no surprise that Squid Game was renewed for season 3.
Season 2 of Squid Game will pick up the plot right where season one left it, as shown by the 2024 sizzle reel Netflix released in February of this year. Lee Jung-jae will be reprising his role as the protagonist, Seong Gi-hun. Also returning to the screen are actors Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo. Fans will just have to wait and see if these characters will make it to Squid Game season three.
