Just over one year ago, EA and Respawn announced that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor would also be coming to last-gen consoles. Now, versions have got a release date.
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor will arrive on Xbox One and PS4 on 17th September.
The reason for the massive time-gap between the game’s initial release and its last-gen ports is presumably down to performance. Even on the newest hardware, Survivor suffered from frame-rate issues, especially on PC. In fact, the fine folk at Digital Foundry revisited the PC version 10 months ago and described as “still the worst triple-A PC port of 2023.”
In other words, a lot of people, including myself, are somewhat sceptical about how well the game is going to run on an Xbox One or PS4. According to the press release, it’ll have “a variety of optimisations aimed at maximizing the hardware capabilities of the consoles.” Forgive me if I don’t hold my breath.
Going back to the PC version for a minute though, EA are promising a new update in the coming weeks. The update promises “enhancements to the game’s technical performance, controls and more”, along with some quality of life improvements, too.
If you’re wondering why EA and Respawn are intent on porting a game backwards, well that’s because there’s still a hell of a lot of people still playing on older hardware. For example, half of PlayStation’s monthly users are on PS4s, so it’s hardly surprising the industry isn’t read to let go yet.
Speaking of PlayStation, if you fancy some Star Wars in your life you can grab Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga as part of the PlayStation Plus Essential plan right now.
