The Last of Us Season 2

With the latest season of House of the Dragon wrapping up, fans are once again growing a bit sad realizing how long of a wait they will have before its next season. Knowing this, HBO put out a teaser this week to remind viewers of all the other exciting shows coming to the network very soon, including the first footage of The Last of Us season 2!

Take a look at the new teaser trailer to see for yourself:

The first season of The Last of Us was undeniably one of the most popular shows of 2023, so fans knew it was going to be a tough wait for season 2 when it was quickly made clear it would not release until 2025. While there have been exciting details coming out, such as casting news and plans to adjust to fan feedback, this is the first actual footage we have seen of the show.

What footage we did see of The Last of Us season 2 teased Joel having to deal with the consequences of his choice at the end of season 1.

It is less than 30 seconds of footage, just enough to whet people’s appetite for the time being. There will undoubtedly be a longer more substantial trailer down the road, but for now it does exactly what HBO wanted, which is to remind people of the highly anticipated lineup they have coming within the next year. The Last of Us season 2 closed out the teaser package, but it contained many shows that have been building quite the buzz.

For A Song of Ice and Fire fans, that includes more of Westeros. House of the Dragon might be wrapping up for now, but coming soon on the horizon is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas that serve as prequels to Game of Thrones. There were also clips of the new seasons of Harley Quinn, White Lotus, and The Gilded Age. But The Last of Us season 2 closed out the package as the big headliner.

The game itself was quite controversial for some of the directions it took the story in, so many fans are eager to see what the show might do differently to expand the story or even change what plays out.

What footage we did see of The Last of Us season 2 teased Joel having to deal with the consequences of his choice at the end of season 1, where he elected to save Ellie even if it meant taking away humanity’s hope for a cure from the infection that has ravaged the world. Joel even went so far as to kill numerous unarmed people to save Ellie and that is a secret that he clearly will not be able to hide forever.

Fans of The Last of Us games know how much changes in the second game that season 2 will be drawing from. The game itself was quite controversial for some of the directions it took the story in, so many fans are eager to see what the show might do differently to expand the story or even change what plays out.

The other big reveal besides The Last of Us season 2 in the teaser package was footage for The Penguin, the TV series continuation of 2022’s The Batman. The plan is for the show to act as a bridge between the first movie and the upcoming sequel. It comes out in September, so even as fans wait for the next part of The Last of Us in 2025, they will still have plenty of major shows to enjoy in the meantime.
